Before undertaking an actual alignment in hands, it makes a lot of sense to have basic information of some key terms associated with the wheel alignment process.
Toe:
Just as a pigeon-toe acts as a fulcrum and helps the pigeon get more flexibility and shock absorption features; car's wheels also rest on toes that have two main sub-components, Camber and Caster.
Camber:
The vertical toe-in. If it points slightly inwards from the top to bottom, it is called 'negative' camber and if it points slightly outwards, it is considered 'positive' camber. Positive or negative camber adjustments help in fine-tuning wheel movements as per driver's expectations.
Caster:
The angle on which the wheel pivots, when handled with the camber. 'Positive' caster facilitates wheels in being centered in orientation during the drives.
Adjusting camber and caster with basic tools in your garage might not be an easy thing to do. Hence, taking assistance from the repair shops is a better choice here.

Alignment Process
Once all the other prerequisites are sorted out, take the following 5 steps:
Step 1
Spin each tyre and mark a line along the center of the tread with a pocketknife. If the circumference is all covered with tread block, make a support for the marking device in order to avoid the undesired jumping effect.
Step 2
Set the car on ground and push a few times on each fender to move the suspension and allow the car to rest on its springs.
Step 3
Free the steering wheel and move the car forward by 10 feet or so, letting the steering wheel go on its own.
Step 4
With the help from a friend, measure the length between the lines in the front of the tyres, at points in line with the spindles. Then measure the distance between the lines on the backs of tyres for the same height. The difference in the two measurements is called toe-in or toe-out. Smaller number in front indicates toe-in and larger indicates toe-out.
Step 5
Release the lock nuts on the tie-rod ends, next to both spindles and adjust it equally on each side to keep the steering wheel centered.
Finally, after you lock it all down, you may repeat this process to get double sure of the adjustments made in the car wheel alignments.

If there's water in the engine, transmission or fuel system, you'll just compound the damage. Your best option is to have your car towed to a mechanic work shop.
2. Determine how deep the car was submerged.

6. Check around the wheels and tires.

Drivers who have small displacement motors may choose to include a turbo to get the response they need on a race track when they push their RPM to the limit. These foreign made "rice burners" could never compete against some of the big displacement muscle car motors that you'll find on the race tracks. Not without adding a powerful turbo to their engine package. This may be the perfect solution for them, but it is not something a big displacement engine owner considers when they want to increase the power and performance, as well as transfer of that power to the streets through the wheels.
The first fallacy of turbos is that you get extra power at any throttle opening. This is false. A turbo compression wheel does not create maximum boost until the throttle is in a WOT (wide open throttle) position for a number of seconds. You may never WOT a throttle around town streets as a turbo would let the daily driver down when it comes to throttle response.
Now that you know the downside of turbo power, you can see why a big muscle car motor might do better with nitrous oxide and a monitoring system for heat. Heat is the number one power robbing component in the combustion engine. Adding a turbo will only add to the build-up of heat inside the combustion chambers. This robs the motor of its power building abilities when trying to get the most horsepower to the wheels. Find out from a wheel supplier which wheels will complement the turbo you have.
Large displacement motors and pickup trucks are susceptible to these environments more than any other engine. Running hot laps back and forth can generate engine busting temperatures that can be exacerbated by a turbo's added heat induction. Often, the larger and heavier cars use turbos to increase the power for forward momentum. Diesel is also usually used in these vehicles because of the initial power and fuel needed to accelerate these vehicles.
If you have a large displacement drag car that operates on staged nitrous oxide induction, you might not want to add a turbo because it won't make much of a difference. Turbos are great if the vehicle is able to suitably control the power of the wheels, drive shaft, tyres and the engine.

Despite the fact that every car owner enjoys the pleasure of driving his personal car, there is one common problem from which all them suffer as their car gets older. In fact, this problem is not the recently grown problem but persists since the cars became popular among the masses. Well, you will agree that having a personal car is the symbol of status of all the car owners, but as their vehicle gets older there is a decline in its performance in terms of fuel efficiency or in simple words average of fuel consumption delivered by it. To combat the problem they have to undoubtedly visit the mechanic for improving the performance of their car.
Interestingly, with changing time there is a change not only in the methods of car manufacturing but also in the methods of its maintenance and servicing. The cars manufactured before 2000 were mainly controlled manually and therefore the mechanics enhancing the performance of the vehicle did every task manually. At that time the mechanics mainly used to change the diesel tuning box or chip for improving the fuel efficiency of the vehicle bought for their workshop for enhancing its performance. But, as the time changed and the use of computers increased in our day to day activities, the car manufacturers started making use of the computers for controlling the functionality of different components. The tuning box or chips got replaced with the engine control unit that was placed below the bonnet closed to onboard diagnostic port.
The car engine control unit had a software installed in it that controlled the whole mechanism of the car including its fuel consumption and power generation efficiency. To improve the performance of car the mechanics now have to re-write or remap the settings of the software installed in the engine control unit of the car. Remapping the engine control unit is the process of enhancing the performance of any vehicle by simply installing or rewriting the program. As the whole process is based on the computers it required the mechanics to be computer savvy and well versed with the process of remapping the engine control unit. With this, it also gave birth to debate that which process of good that is replacing the existing diesel tuning box or remapping the control unit.
There is a group which strongly endorses replacing the diesel tuning box or tuning chip whereas another recommends about diesel remap. Among both these groups, there is another group that opposes both the methods and says that all of them finally decline the performance of an engine. All these debates have gradually developed a huge confusion among the car owners that which process they should adopt for enjoying improved fuel efficiency of their car.
In this regard, it would be first beneficial to understand that basic difference between both these procedures.
Installing: Installing the tuning box or tuning chip is the simplest method which doesn't require any expertise on the subject matter, and a person with little mechanical skills can install a new tuning box or tuning chip into your car. The only thing which needs to be kept in concern while conducting the whole operation is to install the component at the place from where it can be protected by the rainwater and electric shocks. The worth mentioning benefit of replacing the tuning box or tuning chip is that if you want to re-install your older box or chip you can easily get it installed back into your car.
On the contrary, remapping engine control unit needs the mechanic to be well versed with the use of a computer for programming the software with new parameters that result in an improved performance of the vehicle. As the process is stagnated to rewriting the existing program of the software there is no need of taking the place of wiring and other components to protect them from any type of damage arising due to water or any type of electrical interference.
Efficiency: Although both the process will deliver the same results, depending upon the expertise of the mechanic carrying it on your vehicle. However, there might be a slight difference in the performance, which is mainly due to the condition of the engine, as an impact of which sometimes even the cars manufactured by the same manufacturer during the same year deliver different results.
The tuning box is mainly embellished with pre-installed settings, the only thing which requires to enjoy desired results is getting it installed by an expert mechanic having vast experience of installing the tuning box. Whereas, during remapping, the mechanic has to locate the maps and rewrite the news maps depending upon the condition of the engine.
Servicing: Whether you are changing the tuning box or remapping the engine control unit, an important factor that you need to keep in concern is to get your vehicles serviced accordingly from time to time and drive the car according to the standards determined by your car mechanic conducting the operation.

Tuning the car engine for enhancing its performance has become the hottest topic in the cyber world among the motors throughout the world. An interesting fact about the tuning is that it is not able to enhance the performance of old cars but also in the newly launched cars, that are endorsed to empowered with powerful engines. Well, this is quite surprising that why an owner of the newly purchased car will prefer to enhance the power of his car that is already equipped with a powerful engine. Apart, from both these methods, there is one more method which generally is related with replacing the existing engine configuration with the more powerful engine. The worth mentioning the feature of this process is that you are able to enjoy the results that are endorsed for the newly configured engine.
Upgrading the transmission system: Once you have got your car Ferrari tuned according to your requirements, it will be imperative for you to change its existing transmission system, that is suitable to its newly tuned engine. Doing this will help you in driving your car to its fullest speed at top gears according to engine requirements.
Cosmetic updates: Tuning the car although refers to upgrading the engine configurations, it also requires additional updates also. To enjoy the expected results of tuned engine you also need to modify the existing infrastructure of your car so that it does not put extra load on the performance of the upgraded engine. For that, you should try to minimize the weight of your car by installing carbon fibre wheels rather than existing carbon alloy wheels.

Michael Schumacher Health Update 2019: F1 Legend Traveled to Spain During His Birthday, German Outlet Claims

Michael Schumacher has reportedly left his Switzerland estate and traveled to Mallorca Spain where he celebrated his 50th birthday. According to Business Times, the German icon reportedly flew to Port d'Andratx in a Bell 429 Global Ranger that’s been designed specifically for the former racer’s needs.
If true, then Michael Schumacher’s recovery may have seen significant progress. It can be recalled that the F1 legend took a nasty accident in 2013 where he suffered a severe brain injury during a skiing trip that took most of his motor and cognitive functions.
Following the mishap, little is known about Michael Schumacher’s health apart from the rare statements given by his family. Now, it seems that his weekly treatment that allegedly costs around $140,000 has paid off.

The whole story originated from German publication Bunte and Bild (via GP Fans) where the outlet claimed that Michael Schumacher traveled to Spain with his family last year. The vacation supposedly started during the holiday season and was extended towards Jan. 3, the German legend’s birthday.
While this might lift the spirits of Michael Schumacher’s fans, it’s best to remain skeptical about the matter given that the family hasn’t confirmed anything yet. This news comes in the heels of another rumor claiming that Corinna Schumacher bought a $30 million property in Mallorca, Spain.
After publications picked up the story, Michael Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm came forward and said that the information is highly inaccurate. Kehm added that the family doesn’t have any plans to move to Mallorca in the foreseeable future.
As for what the motorsports world knows about Michael Schumacher’s health, it’s difficult to speculate given that the family opted to keep his convalescence private. The latest statement about this subject came from Corinna last month after an outpouring of support burst from social media during her husband’s birthday.
“You can be sure that he is in the very best of hands and that we are doing everything humanly possible to help him. Formula 1 Legends: Interview With Mario Andretti

Italian-born, American-raised Mario Andretti's motorsport dream began at the 1954 Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Monza. The 14-year-old Andretti, along with his twin brother, watched in amazement as the Ferrari of his first racing idol and hometown hero Alberto Ascari sped around the track, not knowing then that this cherished childhood moment would also be career defining for him.
Monza holds a special place in Andretti's heart and he declares he could not have written a better script: in 1978 he secured the Formula 1 World Championship there, twenty-four years after attending his first race. That fateful weekend in 1954 set in motion a series of events which would ultimately lead to an outstanding career spanning five decades, 879 races and 111 wins across various classes of motorsport.
I sat down with the racing icon to discuss his remarkable career, his thoughts on Formula 1 today, taking a trip down memory lane back to where it all began.
EH: Let's start with Monza, and what it meant to you as a 14-year-old seeing your first big race there.
MA: Well Monza. I could say that it was probably the true beginning of my dream to be a racing driver, and I could not have written a better script because this was in 1954 and in 1978 that's where I clinched the [Formula 1] World Championship. To me it was amazing of course winning the race, I won the race the year before. I won that year [1978] too but I was penalised along with Gilles Villeneuve for allegedly jumping the start which I think was debatable, I just reacted to Gilles that he took off; I reacted and I stopped and I went. But anyway that's another story. And the reason I didn't protest was because my teammate Ronnie Petersen was killed that day, so I didn't have the energy to go and continue a protest. But just to repeat what I said about how important that particular day was or that weekend in 1954 at age 14, that's what started it all. Not only just for myself, but I also have a twin brother [Aldo] and we both had the same dream and that's what we pursued.
EH: And then a year later your family moved to Nazareth and you and Aldo discovered a race track nearby.
MA: We had no idea what to expect when we moved to the States but we soon found out, three days after arriving here, that there was a race track nearby. We had no idea about oval racing, you know the American type racing, but the sound was good and it looked like a lot of action and at the same time to me it looked very doable at that level. As you can imagine when we saw Monza, the Grand Prix cars [of] Mercedes, Ferrari, Maserati all that seemed so far away, so unachievable, that when we saw these cars on a local level racing they looked real brute like. But again it looked doable, looked like something we could build. In fact that's what we started, two years later at age 17, that's when we started building a racing car and we started driving two years later.
EH: How did you go with that car?
MA: We were winning actually. That was really a great launching pad for us because it was one car, two drivers. Obviously Aldo and I had to share but he started first, he won the toss and it's a matter of record, he won the very first race. The following weekend I did. But we won races. That year we crashed and did all of the good things that are normal for young racing drivers. That was a very auspicious start for us as you could imagine, and encouraged us along the way. We had a very good season except that at the end of that season, my brother was seriously injured in that car on the very last race of the season, which pretty much determined his career at that point. He raced for ten more years but then he had another very big accident which actually retired him. But for me it was an early stepping stone to launch me to the next level and I continued on and was much more fortunate. I started my career in 1959 and my last race was Le Mans in 2000, so basically I had a 41 year career.
EH: In 1969 you won the Indianapolis 500, what did that win mean to you?
MA: Well it's one of the ambitious goals that you set for yourself, to win the classics. And if you're racing in America, the classic event which is known throughout the globe is the Indianapolis 500. I felt very comfortable from the beginning there, which was in 1965 and I was Rookie of the Year, I finished third and I continued on and I won the National Championship as well, and I was the youngest driver to do so at that point. And then to win it four years later was something that was huge for my career and opened so many doors. But two years earlier I won the Daytona 500 which is the big shining event for stock cars which is so very popular here. And two weeks after winning Daytona I won my first 12 Hours of Sebring with Bruce McLaren as my teammate, so my career was shaping up quite nicely. But as you can imagine to win the best known events around the world is the most important part, that's what really can be life changing which it was in so many ways for me.
EH: In 1991 in Milwaukee we saw the Andretti Podium, which must have been a really proud moment for you sharing that with your family.
MA: Yes it was indeed. And that's pride with a capital "P" actually, because as you can imagine having my own son Michael and my nephew John, Aldo's son, and myself on the same podium. Then later on Michael became my teammate actually. He and I shared the front row many times qualifying and also we've been on pole position I think 12 times together. And we were first and second like eight times in IndyCar. You can imagine how sweet that is for a family to be able to share those moments, you can never even technically plan for it, it's just going to happen or not. And I had so much satisfaction throughout the years from that standpoint to see the family continue. Both my sons are in racing and just like my brother, my second son Jeffrey was not as fortunate as his brother or myself. He had a devastating injury in 1992 in Indianapolis which almost cost him both his legs and that determined his career. But then something like this puts perspective on things, like how fortunate, how lucky Michael and I have been in the sport. And it's not a given, you know, because both my brother and my other son paid dearly for what they tried to do and we know how much we can appreciate the luck that we've had on our side throughout our careers.
EH: How do you handle the competitiveness and tensions that arise between teammates when that teammate is your son?
MA: Well the competitive juices were there. I wasn't about to give an inch to him or receive an inch. But the one that was really on pins and needles as you can imagine was my wife because she was on the sidelines watching us duke it out, and many times actually we were touching wheels and things. Not too hard, she wanted to be sure that we would look after one another and we were not doing anything stupid to put my son in danger or him put me in danger, but we were not giving anything. Actually the first pass, the first overtake that my son did to me competitively for the lead, we touched wheels all the way through the corner and it was very forceful. But at the end of the day there was a lot of satisfaction. When he went by I'm thinking "how dare you Michael!" and then as he's gone into the sunset I'm thinking "that's my boy". It's a double-edged sword. You know that we had the closest finish in IndyCar in 1986 at the Grand Prix in Portland.
EH: Yes, Father's Day. I bet your wife's heart was racing watching that one at the finish line.
MA: Yeah, indeed. Here's the thing though. He actually definitely deserved to win that because he had somewhat of a lead on me as we were coming down to the end of the race. It was about three laps to go and my engineer's shouting in my ears that Michael's having some fuel pick-up problems. At that point I had settled for second and I knew I couldn't catch him. And I really stood on my seat, and here he was coming closer and closer. The last lap we basically had a drag race onto the finish line and I just, just nipped him by an inch. And he was so upset. When we were on the podium then he realised it was Father's Day and he says, well Happy Father's Day Dad [laughs]. He probably thought I could give him a break and let him win, but no way!
EH: You have raced practically everything there is to race on four wheels, so of all the classes of motorsport you have competed in which is your favourite?
MA: It has to be Formula 1, mainly because that's where my love for the sport really began. And of course the opportunity to enter the sport came in America, so I had a very satisfying complete career here in the United States with IndyCar then stock cars and so forth. But if somebody would say you can only choose one discipline, then I would choose Formula 1. It's that simple.
EH: After three decades of racing in Formula 1 and now today as a spectator, how do you see the evolution of the sport?
MA: Well changes are expected, and they're subtle changes if you will. If you're in the sport as close as I am the changes are almost natural, they are not a big thing. The thing that allows me to understand things quite well is that I've gone through the decades and I've seen huge changes materialise, but it was gradual and it's the same thing now. The thing that I understand, that I'm quite happy about, is that I drove into the computer era which is now. We started computer instruments in the car [in IndyCar] back in the middle of the '80s, so I drove into the so-called computer modern era right through the mid '90s. And I'm staying on it, I'm still driving a two-seater car which is the same as a proper racing car only it's expanded for another passenger, but all the technology and everything is the same. So the fact that I'm up to date with things makes it easier to accept and understand. I love progress and I love technology, and I like the way the sport is today. Obviously it's much more regulated because there's so much knowledge out there that you can make the cars undriveable, but there's a human element so it has to be regulated which is fair enough. In fact in the IndyCar we were achieving the speeds, the records that were set back in the mid 90s when I was still driving are still standing, they had to slow the cars down for the safety standpoint so as you can see I have driven faster than what they are doing today. I'm not antiquated by any means.
EH: Which is your favourite track that you've raced on?
MA: Any track that I won [laughs]. That's the only way I can answer that. The other question is, what's your favourite racing car? Every racing car that I won a race with. So it's as simple as that. I don't know how else to put it because it's a fact.
EH: And which of your 111 career wins is the most memorable?
MA: The most memorable would have to be probably winning Indianapolis because of what it really meant career wise. But from personal satisfaction it had to be winning the Grand Prix in Monza in 1977. In 1974 I won the Monza 1000 Kilometers for Alfa Romeo with Arturo Merzario which was really my first victory in Monza. But winning the race, the Grand Prix in '77, that was huge for me because of what Monza stood for as far as my life. I don't think I could have derived more satisfaction than that. I count my blessings every day. I think I won more races than I deserved and I am thankful for that every day so I take nothing for granted. My life in motor racing has been absolutely complete.
