It's common for the car amplifier to overheat especially when you overwork it. In some cases the amp gets too hot such that you can't touch the cover. Sometimes you can even smell a burning smell. If this is the case with your amp, you should highly consider fixing it.
How To Fix An Overheating Car Amplifier
You should start by locating the cooling fan. You should look at the blades and confirm if they are spinning. If they aren't, the fan is most likely faulty. You should look at the fan internally and ensure that the connector is connected to the connector socket. If everything is working well and the fan still fails to work, you need to replace it.
You also need to look at the ventilation vents which are usually at the sides of the car amplifier. You should take a look at them and confirm if they are blocked by dust. If there is dust you should remove it to allow hot air to escape out of the housing.
The final thing that you should do is to check the location of the amp. As rule of thumb you should ensure that it's placed in a well ventilated area so that its able to get rid of heat efficiently. You should also ensure that there isn't anything placed on top of the amp.
Tips On How To Prevent Your Car Amp From Overheating
It's always said that protection is better than cure. To ensure that your unit is working properly you need to ensure that it's protected from overheating. There are many ways in which you can do this with the main ones being:
Ensuring that the amp has the appropriate fuse to prevent power from reaching it in the event that there is a short or mechanical problem.
When on a long trip you should turn the amp off periodically. The best times to turn of the amp is when you stop for gas.
Get a forced air cooling system. This is a powerful cooling system that rarely fails to work.
Conclusion
These are tips on how to fix an overheating car amplifier. Remember that substandard units tend to fail more often than high quality products; therefore, when buying your amp always ensure that you buy it from a reputable store. You should also ensure that you buy the highest quality amp that you can afford.
