When Armani Williams looks back on the 2017 season one day down the road in his NASCAR career he might say ‘that was the year that got it all started for me in NASCAR.’ That’s because the 17 year-old Detroit, Michigan native had a busy year that could pay dividends for him in his NASCAR career for years to come. Williams just finished participating in the 2017 NASCAR Drive for Diversity Combine held in Daytona Beach, Fla., as he will attempt to become one of the newest members of REV Racing – the team that fields cars for the diversity program participants in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions. While this wasn’t the first time he was invited to participate in the combine, Williams felt this year might be different for him. “There were a lot more people involved in the Combine and NASCAR did some new things with all of the candidates to get to know us more as people and not just drivers,” Williams said. Williams started in a Late Model car and was going to test a K&N Pro Series car before weather issues ended any opportunities to drive the car during the Combine’s second day. “Although I didn’t get to go on the track with the K&N car just to be asked to go from a late model to the next level showed me how much I’ve improved,” said Williams. Some of that improvement can be credited to competing in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series over the summer. Williams made five starts in the Canadian national series in a car prepared by two-time series champion D.J. Kennington. Want motorsport news in your inbox? Sign up for our newsletters! Motorsport insider Enter your email address Submit Williams scored a season-best finish of 11th at Delaware Speedway located just across the Canadian border close to his Detroit home and more importantly, gained valuable seat time and experience. “My family and I were trying to put something together to race last year when NASCAR made us aware of an opportunity in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series,” said Williams. “I really appreciate NASCAR, DJ and everyone involved as driving in those five races really helped me.” Williams said set time in the stock car helped prepare him for the combine. “I just wanted to focus on learning the car and getting used to running longer races,” said Williams. “The NASCAR Pinty’s Series races were 250 to 300 laps and that gave me a chance to learn about race strategy and taking care of your equipment. It was a great experience for me.” It will be a few weeks before Williams knows if he’ll be one of the four drivers selected from the combine to drive for REV Racing next season and the teenager is ready to move forward no matter what the outcome. “Obviously we hope we are one of the drivers selected by REV Racing and NASCAR to be a part of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program,” said Williams. “The program has proven to be successful for several drivers that you see racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series today.” Williams was also happy to hear the news that NASCAR Drive for Diversity graduate Darrell Wallace Jr. was recently named the full-time driver for Richard Petty Motorsports in 2018 joining other graduates Daniel Suarez and Kyle Larson who have already reached NASCAR’s premier series. “He (Wallace) was part of the combine and when I see that he made it to the top of NASCAR, that tells me that I can make it, too,” Williams added. “Seeing him make it really motivates me and it shows that anything is possible in NASCAR.” NASCAR and REV Racing invited 12 participants with four being selected for the 2018 season. Three of those drivers will race full-time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, while also running full-time in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series in a Late Model – totaling more than 30 races next season. In addition, the fourth driver will compete full-time in the Late Model program and serve as an alternate for the K&N Pro Series program. We'd tell jokes, we'd laugh and we'd cry, for hours on end. We could drink and slap each other on the back, until the sun started to rise. How I miss those days. It's not easy I tell you, being known as the guy who everyone went to for advice. I was so good I could tune a Pantah by ear over the telephone. And not one of these fancy phones you have these days with no cords. One time I was leading a race and I got a flat. Thankfully it was only flat on the bottom so it only slowed me down a little. When you go that fast, nothing can stop you. At the end of that race, a young man approached me and ask for some riding advice. I took him under my wing, he had a goofy look to him and I felt sorry for him. Many moons later, both full moons and half moons, after speaking at least every second day after all these years, I'm so proud of what he has become. I don't like dropping names, I'm too well known for that, but I credit those 9 titles to myself. I don't need the royalty checks, but they do help to keep my engine revving and my legacy alive. Its 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 makes a staggering 1,346bhp and 1,371Nm, but as the One:1's tyres are rated to 'only' 273mph, we'll have to give it a joint first place with the Agera R. • What is the world's fastest car? The latter features a 1,124bhp twin-turbocharged V8 engine and an equally mind-blowing 273mph top speed. And that’s not all, because the 0-62mph sprint takes just 2.8 seconds, while 186mph is reached a small matter of 11.7 seconds later. However, until somebody tests a One:1 or Agera R on a very long runway, we'll have to take the maximum speed figures on trust. Koenigsegg’s first model, the CCR, was officially recorded at 242mph on the high-speed bowl at Nardo, Italy, in 2005, however. Neat details include a removable, targa-style roof panel for high-speed, wind-in-the-hair thrills, while its light, carbon fibre wheels keep weight to a minimum. However, this performance comes at a price, as you'll need at least £1million to own one. Highlights include the Aston Martin Centenary Meeting at Brands Hatch in 2013 and the AMOC 80th Anniversary Celebration in September 2015. The grids range from the behemoths of the Pre-War Team Challenge, through the icons of the AMOC '50s Sports Cars (now incorporating the Vredestein Jaguar XK Challenge), to the much loved pre-1966 sports cars (of 1150-2700cc capacity) in "Equipe"GTS. Introducing flavours from Europe, the AMOC Intermarque Championship sees Britain's finest battle against their counterparts from Ferrari and Porsche, amongst others. The championship is one of the longest-running championships in the UK, having been established in the early 1970s. Catering for all types of GT and touring cars built prior to 1966 and conforming to the FIA Appendix K regulations, the Innes Ireland Cup was introduced in 2014. Running at almost every AMOC Racing meeting in 2015, each race is for 45 minutes and features a compulsory pit-stop and optional driver change. 2015 saw the launch of a brand new series for GT4 Aston Martins, the Aston Martin GT4 Cup. The new series was launched by Aston Club Racing and ran at every round of the AMOC Racing calendar in 2015. The series is open to both current specification GT4 Astons, and to cars running to earlier specifications – including N24 cars. The new series has the full support of both Aston Martin Lagonda and Aston Martin Racing. AMOC Racing meetings often incorporate a lunchtime parade lap and hospitality for AMOC members, and with an open paddock policy spectators are able to get up close to the rare, beautiful and sometimes even priceless machinery. The V8 Atom could be the world's fastest accelerating car Advertisement FACEBOOK TWITTER GOOGLE+ EMAIL The Ariel Atom V8 is bonkers. 500bhp in a car that weighs 550kg, giving a power to weight ratio of over 900bhp per ton and 0-60mph in a claimed 2.3sec. According to Ariel boss Simon Saunders, ‘in 10 years time you might not be able to do this sort of thing any more’. We’d go slightly further; it’s hard to believe the Ariel Atom V8 is permitted to exist right now. There are precedents of course – the Caparo T1 (video here) and Caterham’s fearsome V8 Levante spring to mind, but this Atom has a higher power to weight ratio than either; higher even than a GP2 car… The Atom V8 has been in the offing for a couple of years now: much rumoured, but only now, with development kinks ironed out, officially announced. Let’s dwell on the statistics for a moment, because they will be this car’s major talking point. The bespoke 3.0-litre flat-plane crank 32-valve V8 is developed in America by Hartley and produces 500bhp and 284lb ft. It’s derived from a pair of Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle engines, which explains why peak torque arrives at 7750rpm and power at a scarcely credible 10,600rpm. ‘We haven’t verified the performance yet’, Saunders told us, ‘but with the Veyron laying down performance benchmarks we wanted to put our own line in the sand.’ If the Atom can get within a few tenths of its claimed figures, it should ease its way into the title of world’s most accelerative production car. The claims are 0-60mph in 2.3secs and 100mph in 5.4secs – quicker than a Veyron (in which we recorded times of 2.8sec and 5.8sec and put it up against a Nissan GT-R on video) and given the Atom’s minimalist build, much, much more intense. Key to its sprinting ability is an hydraulically activated Sadev six speed sequential gearbox that allows flat up-shifts and cuts shift times to just 40 milliseconds. Weighing just 550kg, the Atom V8 boasts a power to weight ratio of 909bhp per ton. The suspension has been uprated and now features aerofoil section wishbones and pushrods, the aluminium monotube dampers have remote reservoirs while magnesium wheels help keep unsprung weight down. Elsewhere there’s a new LCD dash display and additional engine bay bracing, plus all V8s will also have a gold powdercoat chassis finish. So how will the Atom V8 behave? ‘We spent almost three years developing the V8’, says Saunders, ‘ and the key was to maintain driveability – our customers are normal drivers, not astronauts’. Only 25 V8s will be built and despite an asking price of £124,850 plus VAT (£146,699), 20 have already been sold. Each will be handbuilt by a team of two and individually tailored to the buyer: suspension settings, the limited slip differential and even gear ratios can be tuned according to the owner’s preferences. Produced alongside the existing model range (Ariel currently produces around 100 cars per annum), all should be delivered by the end of next year. NEW MCLAREN FOR 2018 SUPERCAR

Menu News Now McLaren planning all-new supercar for 2018 August 3, 2015, 12:31 pm by Drew Johnson PrevNext McLaren is working on its 650S replacement. McLaren is planning to replace its current 650S model with an all-new supercar by 2018, a new report finds. MCLAREN 650S MSRP $265,500 Get More Car Info McLaren is hellbent on keeping its model lineup fresh, and the introduction of an all-new model in about three year's time will adhere to that plan. The new model, internally known as the P14, will replace the 650S, which itself replaced the 12C in 2014. According to Autocar, the P14 will retain McLaren's carbon fiber tub and 3.8L twin-turbocharged V8, but the two-door will be given a radical design language that will set the mold for all future McLaren vehicles. Frank Stephenson, McLaren's design director, described the P14's styling as "even crazier" than that of the P1 supercar. The P14 will initially launch as a coupe, but a Spider with a folding hardtop will be offered about a year later. That deviates from McLaren's typical launch cadence, which usually sees the Spider introduced alongside the coupe. Total output should grow slightly from today's 650 horsepower in the 650S to about 660 horsepower in the P14. The P14 will be capable of accelerating from 0-60 in under 3 seconds and hitting a top speed in excess of 205mph. The P14 will directly target the Ferrari 488 GTB. When it finally lands in 2018, look for the P14 to carry a prices take slightly higher than that of the $265,500 650S. The Mercedes man survived being hit by his only rival for the title, Sebastian Vettel, on the first lap – a dubious collision – to win motor racing's biggest prize in the 18th race of the 20-round season. Hamilton, who carried a Union Flag on his shoulders, eclipsed the mark of three championships he held jointly with Sir Jackie Stewart in the British pantheon. That was not the kind of race I wanted. But I never gave up and that is what is important – what is in my heart. I kept going right to the end. 'I am grateful for today and I just want to lift it up to my family, to God, and to Mercedes, who have been incredible for the last five years and I am so proud to be a part of the team.' But Hamilton's lead went up to an unassailable 56 points with only 50 remaining. Despite his exertions, Hamilton ran along the hoardings in the stadium section ahead of the podium rituals. His mother, Brenda, who has accompanied him in the last two races, in America and here in Mexico City, shed a tear. Mercedes' non-executive chairman Niki Lauda, a three-time world champion, was happy to see Hamilton go one better than him. 'Thank God,' he said. 'Lewis won it. He deserves it. He did it with the best driving he has ever done.' Asked about the first-lap incident, Lauda added: 'I don't know why Sebastian drove so aggressively to destroy his race and Lewis's. Lewis was in front and Sebastian hit him with his front wing. I just don't understand it. 'I'm more proud of this than the other three world championships we have won together because this year was very competitive.' CAR HACKS YOUR MUST HAVE TO FIX YOUR CAR whiskey in the windscreen water

Skip to content Motoring About ← 4 Top In-Car Technology Innovations from CES 2013When to replace shock absorbers [VIDEO] → 26 Car Hacks That Actually Work! UPDATED Feel like a modern day Macgyver that can make something from anything? Well here we have 26 Car Hacks to help you on your quest to greatness. Below are some really cool things you can easily do to make your dricing life easier, better and more enjoyable. 26 Car Hacks That Actually Work 1. Got a hole in your fuel tank? Use minties as a temporary fix. It pays to have a few minties in the car on the off chance your fuel tank springs a leak. For a temporary fix before seeing your local mechanic, chew the mintie until it sticks to your teeth. When this happens chew it further to flatten it out. With a rag wipe the area around the leak until it is as dry as possible and then apply the mintie. 2. Need to clean cloudy headlights? Use Toothpaste. clean cloudy headlights Yes it’s true, toothpaste (especially whitening) can clean foggy headlights. For this one you’ll definitely need to bring your elbow grease. Apply toothpaste to the plastic lens cover with a cloth and thoroughly rub it in all over the lens. Then rinse off completely with clean water and dry. For further protection use a furniture polish or car wax with UV protection. 3. No cup holder? No problem, use a shoe! Shoe cup holder in car If you’re car is from the dark ages you may not have the luxury of using inbuilt cup holders. To that I say NAY! Why not use one of your sneakers? By the gear shift or on the seat it will work perfectly giving your drink more stability. Thirst = quenched. 4. Can’t get your registration sticker off? Use wet newspaper. Out of date registration stickers are very irritating! Sometimes they can feel like they’ve been set in the glass when trying to take them off. But no need worry some wet newspaper will do the trick. Use warm water and place the newspaper over the rego sticker for 10 minutes. This lets the warm water penetrate the sticker and will almost fall off into your hands. 5. Rip your fingers to shreds trying to put a key on a key ring? Use a staple remover. staple remover to put keys on a key ring Do you find it hard to get keys on a key ring or do they tear up your fingers and finger nails? Then it’s time to upgrade to the ultimate in key ring helping technology, a staple remover. Put the teeth of the staple remover in between the two rings, then press down and watch them separate. 6. Picked up pizza for dinner? Use your seat warmer to keep it hot. seat warmer keeps pizza hot This one is pretty self-explanatory… Do you have the luxury of using a seat warmer in your car? Well good for you! If you’re ever picking up pizza turn the seat warmer on for the drive home. The result, no were cold pizza. 7. Bang your doors in the garage wall? Use half a pool noodle. pool noodle stops car door banging This is a cheap and effective way to stop having to worry about how close your door is to the garage wall when getting in and out of your car. Cut the tube in half and either glue, nail or bolt the tube at the specific height your door meets the wall. 8. Always forgetting where your car is parked? There’s an app for that. iParkedHere app Don’t worry, everyone does it. Just not as often as you do! If you tend to forget where your car is parked then let your phone do the remembering for you. iParkedHere is a great app that allows you to input where your car is in an indoor parking lot or outdoor. It even utilises a GPS, image capture an notes if necessary. 9. No paint for small chips and scratches? Use the closest nail polish. nail polish to remove scratches on car Park a little too close to the car next to you and while you were at the supermarket they left a little present for you? We can’t fix poor judgement in a few minutes but we can fix that scratch with nail polish. Of course it needs to be as close as possible to your car’s colour. This may be the only option if you’re unable to obtain or don’t own the particular colour from the manufacturer. 10. Always getting lost? Get a GPS and use less fuel! It is widely known that if you don’t own a GPS you’re going to use more fuel because you’re more likely to get lost. No one likes dishing out more cash for no reason… so hop on it. Get a GPS and start saving. 11. Hang a tennis ball at the back of your garage roof as a parking guide If you have trouble gauging the distance between the front or back of your car and the garage wall when parking then this is for you. You’ll need a two screw hooks, string or yarn and a tennis ball. To start have your vehicle parked in the right position. Then, using a ladder and the string, measure the distance between the roof and the middle of your windscreen, add an extra foot (for knot tying) then cut. Once this is done you can put together the guide by screwing the first hook into the tennis ball and the other into your roof directly above the middle of your windscreen and then tie the string to each hook. The tennis ball should sit nicely in the middle of your windscreen. If it doesn’t untie one of the knots and adjust the height using the additional length. 12. Use a plastic cereal container as a trash can Overtime it is easy for your car to become a massive bin. We tend to leave papers and food wrappers in our car without even thinking about it. Over time this can amount to a lot of waste. One great option is to convert a plastic cereal container into a bin for your car. Don’t forget to use a plastic bin liner so you don’t need to clean the container if any of your rubbish contains food or liquid. 13. Tinted plastic as moveable shade. How irritating is it when you’re driving with the sun at a low angle and your visor can’t stop all the light coming through. At times this can be dangerous as the light can temporarily blind you. One hack is to use moveable tinted plastic sheets. If it is good enough for pilots then it is definitely good enough for the rest of us! The sheets stick to the surface of windows via surface static, which allows you to place the small sheets on the windscreen or side windows to block some of that unwanted light to give your eyes some relief. 14. Hook a mesh bungee to your roof handles for extra storage. Coat hooks inside your car serve a limited purpose. Even when hanging coats on them they usually aren’t off the seat and get crinkled or are in the way of whoever is sitting in that seat. A better use for them is to hook a mesh bungee net (usually used to strap bike helmets to the back seat or fender) to the handles to use as extra storage. You can put anything up there (coats, hats, gloves etc) that you don’t want on you car floor. Most car roofs these days are curved so whatever you’re storing shouldn’t be in the backseat passengers line of site or block the drivers view out of the rear window. 15. Park your car facing east to defrost windscreen in the morning. Although it seems simple you can save some considerable time in the morning. If you live in a place where frost is a big problem on winter mornings and leave your car parked outside then this is for you. Whenever you can make sure you park your car facing east. As the sun rises in the east you’re using the suns warmth to defrost the ice on your windscreen rather than you having to stay outside in the cold and scrape it off yourself. With this trick you should be able to use your windscreen wipers to do the not so heavy lifting for you. Who doesn’t want a little bit of added comfort on a cold winters morning? 16. Use a plunger to remove small dents. This hack is fairly self explanatory. If you have a small dent on one of your car panels you can use a plunger to try and get it out. When pulled back the suction of the plunger also pulls the dented part of the panel forward and back into place. Here is a video showing how it’s done: 17. De-ice a car door lock with hand sanitizer. Does your car door lock not want to play ball in the winter? It could be that it has seized due to moisture within it freezing overnight. A great way to fix the problem is to use an alcohol based hand sanitizer. The heavy alcohol content breaks down ice very well and the squirt style bottles make it easy to inject the sanitizer into the lock to work it’s magic. The best part is that you’ll be spending less time out in the cold fiddling with your keys without gloves on. 18. Turn your car’s ashtray into a smartphone doc. If you drive an older model vehicle that was built in a time when Angry Birds meant exactly that… an angry bird and not a smartphone game then this hack is for you. Your older model vehicle probably doesn’t have that many places to store stuff and especially nothing to fit your phone. Or does it? Jason Torchinsky found a way to utilise his car’s ashtray as a smartphone doc. Rather than trying to explain everything in detail check out his article on LifeHacker it gives great insight into what to do. Jason says that it is a fairly easy hack that should only take a couple of hours. One thing’s for sure… don’t forget to clean out the ashtray! 19. No cleaning products in site? Use a razor blade to clean your windscreen. Many of us don’t have the luxury of living close to a petrol station so we don’t have close access to a squeegee bin and water for cleaning your windscreen. Most of the time it won’t be too clean anyway so you’re probably better off putting this hack into action. A simple but useful tool, a razor blade can do the job effortlessly. Keep one stashed away in your glovebox and use it to scrape off any dirt or bugs that try to go through your windscreen. Plus you never know, it may come in handy for other situations. 20. Use a sticky pad on your dashboard to keep your gadgets in one place. Sticky mats are a great tool for keeping your gadgets in one place on your dashboard. No more phones flying around the car when going around corners! The sticky mat is also perfect if you’re unable to mount your gps to the windscreen. There are hundreds of different types and brands but don’t be tempted by the highly priced items. You’ll find great quality and inexpensive sticky mats on eBay and Amazon. 21. Hack a cassette adapter to be a Bluetooth adaptor for your phone. This is a semi technical hack but definitely one that anybody can do. Take a look at YouTube author KipKay creates a $5 bluetooth music hack using a cheap cassette adapter and some bluetooth headphones. Rather than trying to explaining the how to in text, it’s best if you just watch his awesome video! 22. Reroute your windscreen washer lines into the car and fill with water for drinks on demand. This one is a little crazier but definitely doable. Re-routing your windscreen washer lines into your car will give you water or any other beverage you wish to put in it on demand. BUT a word of caution. I’ve only heard about this and never seen it attempted. If you do attempt it make sure you document it for everyone else! Also make sure that the container and washer lines are completely cleaned out. Some vehicles may use a specific detergent and not just water in the lines. 23. Dual USB power through cigarette lighter. I’ll consider this one a ‘common sense’ hack. The majority of (if not all) handheld devices these days connect and charge via USB. There isn’t much point buying the in car charger kit for a specific device if you can get away with buying a dual USB charger for the cigarette lighter. This will not only save you money but if you or friends have devices they need charged, all that’s needed is it’s USB cable. 24. Replace broken fan belt with pantyhose replace fan belt with pantyhose First lets start off by saying that if your fan belt is broken we recommend you call your nearest Repco Authorised Service centre to see if your car can be towed to their workshop. But if you’re in a situation where calling your nearest workshop is not an option (and willing to take the risk) then you can replace a broken fan belt with stockings for a temporary fix. This may be more difficult in newer cars with numerous other components in the way but it has been done. See Tim Anderson’s article on Instructables for more details. 25. Boost the range of your car remote by holding it to your head boost car remote using your head Does your car remote lack the range needed for it to actually be useful? One way to increase the range of the remote is to hold it underneath your chin. I know it sounds crazy but it actually works and should add a few car lengths to the remote’s capable distance. Tim Pozar, a Silicon Valley radio engineer was asked by the New York Times how this actually works. Mr. Pozar explains, “You are capacitively coupling the fob to your head. With all the fluids in your head it ends up being a nice conductor. Not a great one, but it works.” Using your head can extend the key’s wireless range by a few car lengths. 26. Feeding your kids on the go? Use a magna doodle as a food tray magna doodle as food tray in car Image from ParentHacks.com If you’ve got young kids, you know how car rides can sometimes be a struggle. Giving them toys are a great way to keep them quite, as long as they aren’t noisy themselves! A magna doodle is a great drawing tool for these types of trips, quite, easy to use and no batteries! They’re also great for the busy family on the go that eat in the car. You can use the magna doodle as a food tray for younger children who would usually drop their food all over the place. Who likes to clean up old and dried up food that’s seeped into the seats and carpet? Definitely not me! Know any other car hacks that are car, driving or automotive related? Take a 2litre Cola and pour out (or drink) about 200ml then pour in 200ml dishwashing liquid. Shake it and use a little with a sponge to make your car tyres nice and shiny. Thanks anell LT Cleaner says: 23/07/2014 at 5:06 am When your headlights are foggy, cloudy or yellowed means that Oxidation is building up in your plastic lens. Replacing headlight lenses can cost several hundred dollars. Having a detail shop or Auto repair shop professionally restore your headlights can run $75 to $150 per car. No headlights covers remain clear forever. All plastic headlights become cloudy, foggy or yellowed over time. Psst says: 17/03/2015 at 12:30 am Too often headlight lenses are misdiagnosed as oxidized. When modern clear lenses appear yellow, what’s obscuring them is usually a film of wax and road oils. Truely oxidized lenses are clouded by a milky white outer layer created when uv radiation breaks down the plastic. A similar look can be caused by a coating of deteriorated car wax. When on the exterior black plastic, an old wax coating will make the plastic look grey or chalky. Black plastic is highly resistant to UV deterioration, and turns dull, not white, when it deteriorates, just like tires.. Before resorting to using an abrasive, try non abrasive cleaning in 3 steps. First, a clear grease cutting dish detergent like Joy or Dawn. Second, a general purpose non-ammonia cleaner. Third, rubbing alcohol. Use microfiber towels from the dollar store. Don’t be afraid to rub hard. If you’re lucky, the lenses will be clear, if not, you will have greatly reduced the amount of abrasive polishing needed to remove the discoloration. To decrease lense clouding, avoid getting car wax of any kind on them, and clean whem regularly with Applying a product such as Aerospace Formula 303, an exterior plastic uv potectant, will help. The same kind of cleaning and treatment can help restore or prolong the like new appearance of any exterior black plastic on your car. Two treatments a week apart may be needed to restore black plastic, as the treatment will soften and penetrate and wax that you didn’t get off. HOW TO REPAIR CAR BODY, RUST YOURSELF

menu Do-It-Yourself Auto Body Repair by Jenny Carver Auto body repair is a service that will never go out of business, simply because there are so many cars on the road with needed repairs. Body damage on a vehicle not only looks bad, but can cause major rust damage if not taken care of before rust sets in. You can do many body repairs yourself, without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars at a collision repair shop. Rust Repair Rust can form on your car from a very small nick or chip in the paint that exposes bare metal. Rust can form on bare metal in less than 24 hours in moist climates. It then spreads on the surface of the car, hidden beneath the paint. You many not notice the rust until it is so thick that it causes bubbling in the paint. Use a grinder to grind away the paint and primer on your car. Grind down to the bare metal to find out how much rust is really hidden. Grind away all of the rust and remove it from the front and back side of the metal, if possible. If the rust has penetrated the metal and formed holes, you will have to buy a new body panel, or cut and replace the damaged area with new metal. Spray a self-etching primer on the clean bare metal. This protects the metal from rust and seals it, forming a moisture barrier. You can then spray regular primer and paint over the area. Dents and Dings Repairing dents and dings is not difficult if you have the proper tools. Any automotive supply store will have a dent pulling kit or a paintless dent removing kit. The paintless kit works well on small, shallow dings, but not large dents. The paintless kit involves using a suction to pull the ding out without having to repaint the area. This can only be done if there are no chips or cracks in the paint. For larger dents, you need a dent pulling kit. This involves a drill for drilling multiple holes in the dent and then inserting the dent puller. You then slide the handle or weight of the dent puller toward the car and gently pull it back to you to pull the dent out. This may take several attempts using all of the holes several times to get the dent straight. You can then use body filler to cover the holes and make the area smooth. Use 80 grit sandpaper to smooth the body filler even with the surface of the car. Refinishing Refinishing begins once all dents and dings have been sanded smooth and flush with the surface of the car. Spray two thin coats of primer on the repaired area and allow them to dry. Sand the primer with a long sanding block and 120 grit sandpaper. Wipe the area down with wax and grease remover to remove dirt, dust and oil. Spray three thin coats of paint, allowing 30 minutes of dry time between each coat. Once the paint has dried, spray three coats of clearcoat paint on the area, allowing 30 minutes for each coat to dry. by Taboola Sponsored Links You May Like Calculate in 60 Seconds your Home's Equity!‎ Anygator.uk Bank Customers Are Being Refunded Thousands! The new BMW 5 Series rival is due to arrive in the first half of 2018. The fifth generation of Audi's popular executive saloon and estate will borrow much from the new A4. That means we’re expecting sleek, up-to-the-minute styling and, as we’ve come to expect from Audi, a premium interior packed with improved and upgraded technology. Despite this, it's still going to be a proper Audi, with features like quattro all-wheel drive as well as the choice of practical Avant or Allroad bodystyles. Image 12 of 13Audi A6 2018 spies rear side Image 12 of 13 These fresh spy images show an evolutionary design, with a similar shape and profile but extra creases on the bonnet and a styling line down the side. Whether or not Marc Lichte's promised design language changes (below) materialise on the finished product, we'll have to wait and see. The current A6 is approaching the end of its productive life, and is being superseded left, right and centre by new and stylish models, like the smaller A4, sleek A5 and A5 Sportback as well as the practical Audi Q5 SUV. When the new model arrives it will have to take the fight to established players in the executive market, such as the Mercedes E-Class and the new BMW 5 Series, which should arrive in showrooms in mid-2017. • Best executive cars The A6 is set to be new in every sense of the word, based on an entirely new platform and stuffed with brand-new engines and headline technology features like twin touchscreens, which do away with all the physical cabin controls. Design We could see big changes in the design of the new Audi A6. Following the arrival of the all-new A8 flagship at the end of this year, the A6 will be one of the first Audis penned by new design boss Marc Lichte. We can expect the German brand to move away from its current ‘Russian doll’ styling to a strategy where each model line will have its own individual identity. Image 3 of 13Audi A6 exclusive image (watermarked) - front Image 3 of 13 • Long-term test review: Audi A4 saloon At the front, we'll see an updated version of Audi's daytime running light signature, while down the sides there will be wide blistered wheelarches and strong creases. Expect to see a strip of bright chrome on the rear, too. A practical Avant and rugged A6 Allroad will be launched off the back of the new saloon, along with a more image-led four-door A7 Sportback. The Avant will be bigger and more practical than the existing model, but with a more steeply raked rear screen and less boxy looks. Technology While Audi will consciously distance the A6 from the A8 in terms of appearance, the exec will benefit from its big brother’s autonomous safety and on-board tech. Its cabin architecture will also be a total shift from that of today’s A6. Gone is the scroll-wheel driven Audi MMI system - in fact, gone are all traditional buttons, with the cabin controlled solely by two screens seamlessly integrated into the centre console. Audi is also promising new haptic touchscreens that will give feedback to your finger - a first in the automotive world. The Prologue concept seen at the Los Angeles Motor Show back in 2014 was a thinly veiled glimpse at what the new A6 will look like. Bosses have previously said that the Prologue was developed after the A6 project had been signed off, hinting at the concept’s real-world design cues. • New Audi A8 to feature 'Level 3' autonomous tech The A6 will share its new MLB platform with the A8, reducing weight by around 100kg. This means it will be one of the first mainstream Audi models to feature the 48-volt electrical system and electric turbocharging from the new SQ7. In the SUV the set-up has been geared to deliver additional performance, but bosses have previously told Auto Express it can be tweaked to prioritise fuel economy. The electric turbo tech is likely to be applied to a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. Image 4 of 13Audi A6 exclusive image (watermarked) - rear Image 4 of 13 The 48-volt electronic system will offer a raft of new autonomous kit that we’ll first see on the A8. Audi’s proposed piloted driving tech will include ‘traffic-jam pilot’. This will hand over full control to the vehicle, allowing it to alter speeds and steering inputs independently at speeds of up to 37mph. Engines Of course, the regular 2.0 diesel will make up the bulk of A6 sales, alongside a range of four-cylinder petrol turbos and six-cylinder diesels. A frugal plug-in hybrid e-tron capable of around 32 miles on battery power alone will be introduced, too. It’s also likely that Audi will remove the availability of a manual gearbox, offering the A6 with seven and eight-speed dual-clutch autos only. Further information will be released at that point Only 12 of the aluminium bodied Lightweight E-types were eventually built, the last in 1964, the remaining six designated chassis numbers having lain dormant, until now. Derek Weale, Director, JLR Heritage Business, said: “This is an incredibly exciting project for Jaguar. The E-type is an iconic car, and the Lightweight E-type is the most desirable model of all. To be able to complete the intended production run of 18, some 50 years after the last Lightweight was completed, is an opportunity we couldn’t miss. “I’m very much looking forward to revealing full details of the cars, and seeing them in action, in the very near future.” The new cars will be hand-built in-house by Jaguar’s finest craftsmen. Each car will be constructed to the exact specifications of their original 1960s forebears – including the 3.8-litre straight-six engine. Customers will also be able to make bespoke requests for interior and exterior trim levels, paint and livery and further technical specification. The Lightweight carried approximately 114kg (250lb) less weight than a standard E-type, thanks to its all-aluminium body and engine block, a lack of interior trim and exterior chrome work and a host of further weight-saving features including lightweight, hand-operated side windows.
