The New Porsche Cayenne 2018 – What’s changed?
August 30, 2017
Porsche Cayenne 2018
The new Porsche Cayenne was revealed yesterday and while the changes are more subtle then striking Porsche are still confident there best selling SUV will be well received in this competitive market. When the Cayenne was first launched some regarded as ugly. It had definitely been upstaged by its younger sibling by 2013 and the new one does seem a better looking version.
However the main changes are under the bonnet and inside the cabin
Engines
There are two newly developed V6 petrol engines to choose from: a 335bhp 3.0-litre with a single turbocharger and a twin-turbo 2.9-litre that produces 434bhp. The first model is simply badged as the Cayenne, while the second is the Cayenne S. Both are more powerful than their predecessors – by 39bhp and 20bhp respectively.
The car comes with a new 8 speed gearbox that shifts a lot more quickly then its predecessor and gives a more sporty feel at low gears but giving taller high gear ratios perfect for fuel economy on motorway journeys.
0-60’s are impressive especially when the car is fitted with with the optional Sport Chrono Package, which includes launch control that helps you accelerate as quickly as possible from a standing start, the regular Cayenne can reach 0-62mph in 5.9sec (compared with 6.2sec without it). The Cayenne S, meanwhile, can hit 62mph in 4.9sec when fitted with the Sport Chrono Package or 5.2sec if you don’t tick this box on the options list.

Technology
As you would expect with a luxury Porsche, the car can be fitted with the latest high technology. All Cayennes are 4 wheel drive with 4 different driving modes to handle mud, Gravel, Sand and rocks. The SUV comes with LED lights and the option to have Porsche Dynamic Light system plus which give s you 84 independently emitting lights that can turn corners with you, give a beam that doesn’t dazzle and road signal glare control. Fancy or what. Other options include aids to help suspension and cornering.

Inside the cabin
Inside is also impressive with the same interior as the updated Panamera launched last year. This means the car has a 12.3-inch high-definition touchscreen running the latest Porsche Communications Management infotainment system. In front of the driver is a traditional analog tachometer flanked by a pair of seven-inch digital instrument displays. Like the Panamera that debuted, the buttons on the Cayenne’s new center stack have been replaced by a glass-look touch surfaces. The touchscreen infotainment system is very impressive with large icons that you can hit accurately even on the move. The screen has a high resolution, too, and is free from lag; it’s one of the best touchscreen systems out there.
The systems that can be accessed through the screen include satellite navigation with real-time traffic information and Porsche Connect Plus, which allows access to online services and the internet. Meanwhile, options include Night Vision Assist with a thermal imaging camera.
In addition, the Cayenne will be available with, traffic jam assist, park assist, surround view cameras, adaptive cruise control as well as new sound systems from Bose and Burmester.
Prices
A standard Cayenne with no options will cost you £55,965, while the Cayenne S is priced from £68,330 – a £3791 increase on the outgoing model.
Order books are now open with deliveries in April next year
